Description
It is impossible to overestimate the importance of Leonardo Pisano, known as ‘Fibonacci’. In the early 13th century, he brought Indo-Arabic numbers to Europe and with his Liber Abbaci the positional notation we still use today. He also describes numerous practical problems of great importance to the merchants of the time, explaining how to solve them with ‘the new numbers’ and the refined calculation methods (which today we would call ‘algorithms’) he imported.
On the 850th anniversary of his birth, Comics&Science remembers him in collaboration with the Museo degli Strumenti per il Calcolo, the University of Pisa, and of course with Il libro di Leonardo (The Book of Leonardo), the comic that Claudia Flandoli sets in the Pisa of the time that welcomes his prodigal son, full of enthusiasm and new knowledge.
